First Aid: Trauma Kits
First aid is a broad and complex component of safety, whether you are deciding how to be prepared for emergencies in the workplace, your recreational sports team, or home. So far, we have covered quite a few of the big picture aspects of first aid, as well as some of the more specific items (such as AEDs and Emergency Eye Wash). In this blog, we are taking a look at trauma kits.
When selecting a trauma kit, it is important that you know what standards you need it to meet. Largely, these will meet the “Class B” classification outlined in ANSI/ISEA Z308.1-2021. This means that trauma kits are most likely going to include a splint and a tourniquet. Some trauma kits also include an AED, adding to their functionality. For example, the Modulator Trauma Kit with Heartsine 350P AED & Bleed Control, XL Rugged Hard Case (AH-M600-4) we offer, meets Class B requirements while also including an AED. However, some trauma kits do not include all needed items to meet Class B requirements because this classification requires all Class A mandated items in addition to bleed control and splints.
In many cases, trauma kits are designed for very specific uses. For example, you will find EMS and Military specific kits listed on our webpage in addition to the more generalized kits. However, it is important to note that trauma kits are not necessarily the first choice for every situation. Class B kits are intended for highly populated, complex, or higher-risk environments. These kits are designed to be the first response in an emergency where bleed control and splints may be necessary.
