Signage: Material Selection
After discerning the message and size of your sign, the next step is deciding on the most appropriate material for you. According to Safehouse Signs, our long trusted signage vendor, there are five things to consider in material selection.

Longevity: Is your sign permanent or temporary? For longer lasting signs, aluminum or plastic may be your best choice.

Location: Is your sign going to be indoors or outdoors? The majority of the signage we offer can be placed in either setting. However, this may impact the longevity of the sign.

Environment: Is the setting hot or cold? Damp or dry? Light or dark? Areas of extreme heat or cold may need special consideration for material. Some signage offerings have a glow option for dark environments. However, these may require an indoor setting.

Regulatory Requirements: While most of the ANSI/OSHA requirements for signage center on design and size, it is required that signage be made of a material which will allow it to be legible and stand up to its environment.

Budget: As far as pricing goes, metal will generally be at the top end of pricing while adhesive vinyl will be on the lower end. Ultimately, if a sign is able to meet all other requirements in any material, budget may be the deciding factor.
